JOHN GIFFARD 1552-1622
Giffard Memorial,
St Hieritha's Church, Chittlehampton
John Giffard (1552-1622) owned the estate of Brighteigh in Devon and married Honor Erle (1555-1638), with whom he had 11 children. This portrait effigy is part of a memorial erected in 1625 by his grandson and heir Colonel John Giffard (1602-1665).
Mary Emma Sercombe (1859-1922) is directly descended from John Giffard and Honor Erle.
