GIFFARD CHAPEL, ST HIERITHA'S CHURCH
CHITTLEHAMPTON, DEVON
In 1625, Colonel John Giffard (1602-1665) erected this memorial monument in the north transept of the church of St Hieritha. It depicts in effigy his grandfather John Giffard (1552-1622), and the kneeling figures of his father Arthur (1580-1616) and himself. Above the recumbent figure of his grandfather are two medallions sculpted in relief which represent his great-grandfather John Giffard (1523-1585) and his great-great-grandfather Roger Giffard (1494-1547).
At the foot of the monument is the pavement gravestone of Martha Hill/Giffard (1678-1752).
