BRIGHTLEIGH BARTON
BRIGHTLEIGH BARTON

Brightleigh in Devon was the seat of the Giffard family from the early 16th century to 1715. All that remains of the estate is the large farmhouse shown here, known as Brightleigh Barton, to the west of which once stood the original moated mansion house.
Roger Giffard (1494-1547) acquired the manor of Brightleigh, near Chittlehampton, by marriage to Margaret Cobleigh (1502-1547), one of the wealthiest women in Devon, who was sole heir to her father’s several estates.
