WYKES CHAPEL, ST ANDREW'S CHURCH
SOUTH TAWTON, DEVON
Seen here in situ in the north chapel, known as Wykes Chapel, the effigy of John 'Warrior' Wykes (c.1525-1591) lies in armour with his feet resting on a goose, representing the arms of his maternal ancestor Burnell of Cocktree. The monument also displays the arms of Wykes and those of his wife's family the Giffards. Mary Giffard (d.1598) erected the monument in 1592.
