Giffard Memorial,
St Hieritha's Church, Chittlehampton
Colonel John Giffard (1602-1665) succeeded to his grandfather's estate of Brightleigh at the age of twenty. He was a Royalist and Cavalier during the English Civil Wars, and married Joan Wyndham (1606-1665). This kneeling effigy of himself is part of a memorial he erected in memory of his predecessors.
Mary Emma Sercombe (1859-1922) is directly descended from John Giffard and Joan Wyndham.
