ALICE DE ST GEORGE EFFIGY
ALICE DE ST GEORGE EFFIGY

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH
WEARE GIFFARD, DEVON

The stone effigy, thought to date from about 1243, of Lady Alice de St George was originally located side by side with that of her husband Sir Walter Giffard on a tomb in the north transept of Holy Trinity, but they are now housed separately in arched niches after being removed in the 19th century to make room for a new organ. Lady Alice's effigy may be glimpsed here behind wooden pews beside the organ.
