HOLY TRINITY CHURCH
WEARE GIFFARD, DEVON
Wife of Sir Walter Giffard and daughter of Henry de St George and Alice de Bretville. Lady Alice and Sir Walter lived in the second half of the 13th century and held the manor of Weare in the Torridge district of Devon. The ancient Giffard residence Weare Giffard Hall stands adjacent to Holy Trinity Church wherein this effigy of Lady Alice, thought to date from about 1243, can seen, her head resting on a pillow supported by (now headless) angels.
